Electrical wiring and rewiring in Austin, TX
The wiring behind your walls is what every outlet, light and appliance depends on. When it is undersized, outdated or unsafe, we run new circuits or rewire with a flat-rate price you approve before any work begins.
Wiring and rewiring covers the conductors and circuits that carry power through your home, from a single new dedicated circuit to a full whole-home rewire. We add circuits for appliances and rooms, remediate aluminum branch wiring, correct backstabbed devices, rough-in additions and remodels, and replace knob-and-tube or cloth-insulated wire in older homes. The service panel itself is handled under our panel upgrades work, and the devices on the end of a circuit, the receptacle and the fixture, have their own pages. We diagnose the cause first, explain your options, and verify the work after.
This is the right call if:
- Your home was built in the 1960s or 1970s and has aluminum branch wiring to the outlets and switches.
- You need a dedicated circuit for a new range, dryer, microwave, window unit or a home office load.
- Outlets feel warm, breakers trip on one circuit, or you smell a faint burning odor near a device.
- You are remodeling, finishing a space or adding a room and need the new area wired to code.
- An older home still has cloth-covered wire or knob-and-tube that an inspector or insurer flagged.
- Too many rooms share one overloaded circuit and you want the load spread out properly.
Wiring & rewiring options
New dedicated circuits
Heavy appliances and high-draw rooms need their own home run back to the panel so they are not sharing with everything else. We run dedicated circuits for ranges, dryers, microwaves, window and mini-split units, kitchens, offices and shops, sized to the load so breakers stop nuisance tripping.
Aluminum branch-wiring remediation
Many Lakeway and Westlake homes from the late 1960s and 1970s were wired with aluminum branch circuits, which expand and loosen at connections over time and can overheat. We remediate it at every device with approved COPALUM-style crimp connectors or pigtailing to copper, so the connections stay tight and run cool.
Whole-home and partial rewires
When wiring is failing throughout the house, a full rewire replaces the branch circuits and brings the home up to current code with proper grounding. Where only part of the home is affected, we rewire that section and tie it in cleanly rather than touching walls that do not need it.
Remodel and addition rough-in
New and finished spaces need circuits planned, pulled and roughed-in before the walls close up. We lay out the branch wiring for additions, finished garages and remodels, coordinate inspections at rough-in, and leave it ready for devices and fixtures.
Knob-and-tube and cloth-wire replacement
Older homes with knob-and-tube or cloth-insulated wiring have no ground and brittle insulation that crumbles when disturbed. We replace it with modern grounded wiring, which is also what many insurers now require before they will write a policy.
What waiting can cost you
Loose aluminum connections run hot
Aluminum branch wiring loosens at the screw terminals as it heats and cools, and a loose connection arcs and overheats behind the wall where you cannot see it. That is a fire risk that builds quietly until it is remediated.
Backstabbed devices fail over time
Wires pushed into the quick-connect holes on the back of cheap outlets and switches rely on a tiny spring that loosens with load. The result is flickering, dead outlets and heat at the device, which we correct by moving the wires to the screw terminals.
Overloaded shared circuits
When too many rooms or a big appliance share one branch circuit, the breaker trips or the wire runs warm under load. Adding a dedicated circuit fixes the cause instead of swapping to a larger breaker that the wire was never sized for.
Our process
- 01
Diagnosis and walkthrough
We find out what is actually on each circuit, inspect the wiring and connections, and confirm the age and type of wire, especially in older Hill Country homes.
- 02
Flat-rate options
You get a clear written price for the new circuit, the remediation or the rewire before we start, with permit fees spelled out so there are no surprises.
- 03
Permit and inspection coordination
Rewires and many new circuits require a permit, so we pull it with the City of Austin or your county office and schedule the inspections.
- 04
Wiring the work
We pull new conductors, remediate connections or rough-in the space, keeping drywall cuts as small as possible and protecting your floors and finishes.
- 05
Devices, grounding and labeling
We land every circuit on the right breaker, bring grounding up to current code, and label the panel directory so you know what each circuit feeds.
- 06
Inspection and verification
We test the new wiring under load, meet the inspector so the work is closed out, and walk you through what changed.
What is included
Every wiring & rewiring job from Magnify Electric includes the same standards, start to finish.
- A circuit-by-circuit diagnosis so we fix the real cause, not a symptom.
- Copper home runs sized to the load for every new dedicated circuit.
- Approved connectors or pigtailing for aluminum branch-wiring remediation.
- Proper grounding brought up to current code on rewired circuits.
- Permit pulling and inspection coordination with the City of Austin or your county for rewires.
- A clearly labeled panel directory for the circuits we touch.
- A complimentary 54-point safety inspection of the existing wiring and connections throughout the home.
Cost factors
We give you a flat-rate price after we see the job. These are the things that move that number up or down.
Scope of the wiring
A single dedicated circuit is a very different job than a whole-home rewire. We confirm how many circuits and how much wire the work needs before we quote it.
Wall and ceiling access
Open walls during a remodel make for a clean pull, while fishing wire through finished walls and a slab-on-grade or attic-access home takes more time, which affects the price.
Age and type of existing wire
Aluminum remediation, knob-and-tube removal and cloth-wire replacement each carry their own labor because the old wiring has to be handled carefully as it comes out.
We remediate aluminum branch wiring in 1960s and 1970s homes around Lakeway and Westlake, rough-in new circuits for the new builds going up in Leander, Liberty Hill and Hutto, and rewire older cabins and lake homes around Spicewood, Bee Cave and Lake Travis that have been added onto over the years.

Chris and Caden did an amazing job installing my EV charger and helped assist me with other electrical questions I had around my house!! Very professional and kind. I highly recommend them!
Chris and Caden did a great job of installing a dedicated circuit and outlet for us. They were very thorough in checking out the existing circuit outlets and also patient with explaining everything before starting. I appreciated especially the quality of their work, their professionalism, and their willingness to throw in extra work where they saw fit at no charge. In short, I couldn’t be happier about the job they did.
Chris and Caden were awesome - they installed an entire new main panel and a new subpanel very effectively. We knew exactly what to expect at every step in the process, and now everything is up to code! If we need any additional electrical work, we will absolutely call Magnify Electric.
Trayvon is such a professional. He answers any and all questions. Does an amazing job in whatever is needed, and you’d never even know he had been here as he tidies up impeccably. He is our family’s electrician. I’d give 10 stars if able!
Felt lucky to have found Magnify Electric. Christian fixed the issue we were having with our hardwired smoke alarms, installed a whole-house surge protector, and fixed a longstanding light switch issue. He did everything with excellence and efficiency. He did a great job of communicating throughout the process. Thanks so much!
Showed as scheduled. Had to coordinate with PEC and everything went very smoothly. Christian was very professional and completed the job quickly. Very satisfied with the results. I would recommend them to do any electrical work in my home.
Wiring & rewiring questions, answered
My home has aluminum wiring. Does it all need to be replaced?
Usually not. The problem with aluminum branch wiring is at the connections, where it loosens and overheats, not along the whole run. We remediate it at every outlet, switch and junction with approved COPALUM-style connectors or by pigtailing to copper, which addresses the actual fire risk without tearing the house apart. We inspect it and show you what we find before recommending anything.
How much does it cost to rewire a house?
It depends on the size of the home, how many circuits are involved, how easy the walls are to access, and the type of old wire coming out. We give you a flat-rate price after we assess the wiring, and you approve it before any work starts. We never quote a rewire without seeing it.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for a new appliance?
Most larger appliances do. Ranges, dryers, microwaves and window or mini-split units draw enough current that they need their own home run back to the panel so they are not sharing a circuit that keeps tripping. We size the circuit and the breaker to the appliance so it runs reliably. If the panel does not have room, that falls under our panel work.
Do you pull permits for wiring work?
Yes. A whole-home rewire and many new circuits require a permit and an inspection, and we handle both. Depending on your address that may be the City of Austin or a county office. Permits protect you at resale and keep the work verifiable.
What is knob-and-tube wiring and should I be concerned?
Knob-and-tube is an early wiring method found in some older homes that has no ground wire and insulation that grows brittle with age. It is not safe to extend or bury in insulation, and many insurers now require it to be replaced before they will cover the home. We replace it with modern grounded wiring and coordinate the inspection.
Can you wire a remodel or an addition?
Yes. We plan and rough-in the branch wiring for additions, finished garages and remodels before the walls close up, then come back to land devices and fixtures after drywall. We coordinate the rough-in inspection with your jurisdiction so the project stays on schedule.
My outlet is warm and one breaker keeps tripping. Is that a wiring problem?
It can be. Warmth at a device often points to a loose connection, a backstabbed outlet or an overloaded circuit, and a breaker that trips is frequently doing its job on a circuit carrying more than it was wired for. If you smell burning or see scorching, turn that circuit off at the breaker if it is safe to do so and call us. We trace the cause rather than just reset the breaker.
How long does a whole-home rewire take?
It depends on the size of the home and how accessible the walls are, but a full rewire typically runs several days. We stage the work to keep key circuits live where we can, give you the outage windows in advance, and send text-message updates so you know where things stand.
